Re-modelling our Maternity Support Workforce
The Trust has agreed to change the banding structure of our maternity support workforce.
As with the recent remodelling of the healthcare assistant workforce in nursing, the Trust executive has agreed to change the banding structure of our Maternity support workers. In our new workforce model, band 2 maternity care assistants (MCA) and band 3 maternity support workers (MSW) will have distinct job descriptions.
The Trust has decided to make this change because we know that we can provide better care to women and birthing people by having a more skilled maternity support workforce.
It is important to emphasise that this change will not in any way result in workforce reductions. There is absolutely no risk of anyone losing their job because of this process.
From 19 June until 21 July, the Trust is consulting on the proposed transition arrangements for moving to our new Healthcare Assistant workforce model.
For band 2 MCAs who would like to become a MSW, the consultation document describes the proposed recruitment process. Likewise, for people who are already in a band 3 MSW post, the document proposes what should happen before people can be confirmed as a band 3 in the future.
