Appraisal Workshops for Managers
Course Aim: To further develop your (as an appraiser) skills and knowledge to enable you to conduct effective appraisal conversations.

Who should attend? This course is for managers or supervisors with responsibility for appraising staff.

Recruitment & Selection (general)
Aims to develop practice and skills in the recruitment and selection process and allow managers to apply sound techniques when employing staff. Including:- Legislation; Recruitment Process; identifying need for role; job description; advertising; short listing; interviewing; appointment; induction.
This course will be moving to e-learning, the module is currently under development. If you require urgent assistant in the interim period please contact your HR advisor.

Coaching Skills for Line Managers
Coaching conversations for line managers is a highly interactive and participative one day workshop . Coaching style conversations can help managers and leaders to have conversations that are both supportive and challenging.
Aim & Objectives
To enable managers to have even better coaching style conversations with staff at work within a challenging environment under financial constraints and delivery pressures. The purpose is to give managers a couple of tools which they can apply straight away and will make a difference to the conversations they have at work. These conversations may take place in a business as usual setting – appraisals, 1-2-1s, the clinic, ward, corridor and more. Each session is delivered to meet the manager’s specific needs and in line with the Trust’s BEST strategy.
At the end of this course the participants will

Aimed at leaders at middle or senior levels (Band 5 and above).

Coaching is an effective way of improving your performance resulting in an increase of learning by 20%. combined with learning on-the-job (experiential learning) of 70% this can create 90% of your learning experience. - Understand what a coaching style is and know the difference between coaching, mentoring and directing and when to best use each style and consider the spectrum of coaching at work.
- Understand how the use of a coaching approach can help lead or manage people to enhance performance and become an integral part of supervision and appraisal.
- Have practised having coaching conversations using a clear coaching framework namely REACH© (Contracting, Reflect, Explore, Agree outcomes, Commit to action Hold to account)
- Have identified strengths and what might be an area to pay attention to within own development when utilising a coaching approach, for example being aware of own values, beliefs, assumptions and how these might potentially help or hinder in a coaching conversation.
